So, if you don't already know him, the time has come! Next, find out more about Child Aid, how to request it and exercise your rights! After all, this facility brings balance and guarantees assistance when the individual needs it most.
In fact, this is a benefit paid by Portuguese social security to workers. So, read below and understand everything about it: how it works and more! Follow along.
What is Child Aid?
Child Benefit arises from the worker's need to be absent from work to care for a sick child, whether due to an accident, common or chronic illness or disabilities.
Therefore, the benefit does not prevent the worker from being by his child's side when he needs it most. Likewise, it does not punish citizens who miss work for a greater reason.
How does this assistance work?
It works when illnesses or accidents affect workers' children and cause them to be absent from work to assist their children.
In fact, the benefit applies to both minor and adult children. Each parent can be absent from work for 30 days a year when the child is up to 12 years old.
From that age onwards, the period of absence drops to 15 days a year. However, if there are 2 children, the time increases to 16 days; in the case of 3, to 17; and so on.
If a child under 12 years of age needs to be hospitalized, there is no time limit. The same applies to hospitalization of a child with a chronic illness or disability, regardless of their age.
How to apply for Child Assistance?
It is possible to request Aid at the Direct Social Security service, at Social Security customer services or at citizen stores.
However, it is necessary to present documents proving absence. This is only waived if the impediment is certified by the CIT (Certificate of Temporary Incapacity for Work).
So, click on the link below to find out, in detail, how to request the benefit. So, see the step-by-step guide on how to request it and get help!
